Dear Baby Jack: 11 Months!

Apologies for the late post, we were apparently on the Texas leg of our world tour to see family and friends.

11 months! You are quite the mover and shaker now, with birthday AND flag day parties to attend. We've found that you've started to become a pretty great party guest, in contrast to your first Christmas party where everyone learned the true meaning of colic. You are more than content to sit in a lap and be entertained by other children running around, and I think it will not be long before you're one of them partaking in the fun.

You are very active and constantly getting into everything at home. Living with you is a little bit like having someone do a white glove test for cleanliness every day. You've found every tiny bug, piece of dirt, string, and all the dustiest parts of the blinds. For some reason you live to sit on the tile floor in the kitchen, and it cracks me up to see you on the stark floor while a pile of toys waits to be played with. Apparently you're content to play with dirt or a single box. #thesimplelife.
Your palette has been broadened to include pasta, brisket (double fisted it like a true Texan), avocado, peas, cherries, and strawberries. You like to feed yourself and stuff as much food as possible into your mouth at one time. You've figured out how to take full advantage of your chipmunk cheeks and I've found more than a handful of peas in there. You can drink from a straw, although more often than not you take a big sip and then let it dribble all over your shirt.
Your favorite things to do include knocking down towers of blocks, chasing Oliver, and pulling up on all the furniture. Somehow you've learned how to whistle, and after originally thinking you were wheezing and having a PANIC ATTACK it has become fun to listen to. My days of watching tv while nursing are officially over since you're now known to fling yourself away from me to see the TV.  Most of the time you entertain yourself by pulling my hair or shirt or putting your fingers in my mouth. It is hard to explain to an 11 month old that mom needs all the hair she can get. I might need to collect the strands you pull out to fill back in the bald spots.
I can't believe we're only a month away from your first birthday! I think I'm most excited to see you lay into your birthday cake/for me to eat birthday cake. The way you've been growing it seems like by the time you're one you'll be driving a car.
